South Yorkshire based manufacturing SME expands internationally with new office

A Barnsley based developer of specialised leak detection and environmental protection systems, Andel, has expanded into Romania.

Headed up by European business development executive, Ioana Martin, the new Bucharest office’s main divisions focus on leak detection, water sustainability and flood defence. The Yorkshire SME expanded into Romania after spotting potential growth in the area and is perfectly positioned to allow growth within the European region.

Ioana commented: “I relocated back to Romania due to Brexit and the uncertainty it brought. However, I soon realised it was a great opportunity to be able to tap into a new market and discover new opportunities. I spoke to the team at Andel and they agreed about the gap in the market in Romania and decided it was worth investing in.

“We have done this in the past with our office in Poland similarly where there was huge potential for our products within the growing economy so we have good previous form on this.”

The long-term plan for the office is to equip it with the same product and service offering that Andel has in the UK along with teams able to go to sites for installations, maintenance and compliance.

Sales director, Aaron Brian, added: “We have created a well-equipped independent website to service the European region and look forward to seeing it reach many people in need of our products and services. We’ve already seen great interest and our offering has generated lots of enquiries.

“There is also a great need for general education in the divisions that we work in to equip the communities with the knowledge they need so we are attending networking events, speaking at knowledge events on sustainable solutions and running educational campaigns over social media channels to support them.”

Earlier this year, the Lord Mayor of Leeds welcomed Andel to the University of Leeds Nexus Innovation Hub and the company won the Manufacturing Innovation at the Made in Sheffield awards.

Andel has previously won the Queen’s Award for Innovation and was cited as one of the success stories of the 2012 London Olympics, installing and commissioning several leak detection systems in the main stadium, the white-water canoe course, and the Olympic village.

Andel has also installed its Floodline system in prestigious London buildings including the Shard, the Houses of Parliament, the O2, the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building and Canary Wharf.
