Sheffield house builder secures planning for multi-million pound sustainable development

Sheffield-based housebuilder Honey has been granted planning permission to deliver 95 two-, three- and four-bedroom new homes on an eight-acre site off Barnburgh Lane, near Barnsley.

Called Iris, the £23.5m development is Honey’s second development and the first in its home county of Yorkshire since launching last October. Iris will feature 16 housetypes which Honey says have all been specifically designed to combine “style, substance and sustainability” for the benefit of buyers.

Prices at Iris range from £184,995 for a two-bedroom mid-terrace property to £374,995 for a four-bedroom detached home. Honey expects to launch a four-bedroom detached showhome at the development this coming January. Work at Iris is due to commence in October with the first residents expected to move into their new homes in summer 2024.

As well as providing new homes for the area, Honey is also making contributions of £540,000 to education, £71,000 to sustainable travel and £153,000 for green space/open space for initiatives that will benefit the local community.

Honey chief executive, Mark Mitchell, said: “We are very pleased to now be in a position to start building our first ever development in Yorkshire. Iris will showcase the style, substance and sustainability of the type of homes we will deliver on future sites that we acquire throughout the county and beyond.

“We believe our range of new homes at Iris are unmatched at their price points and will provide much needed high specification residential properties for people living locally or moving to the area.”

Honey is backed by private equity firm Alchemy Partners and its Alchemy Special Opportunities Fund IV which has £937m of fully committed capital.

The housebuilder’s first development, a £14m, 50-new home scheme called Amber in South Normanton, Derbyshire, is currently underway. Amber features a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes with prices ranging from £184,950 for a two-bedroom mid-terrace home to £379,995 for a four-bedroom detached property.

Honey has also submitted plans and exchanged contracts to deliver a £20.35m, 75-new home development called Hazel in Matlock, Derbyshire. Since launching, Honey has secured eight sites located in Yorkshire and Derbyshire that will deliver 1,000 plots and revenues of £300m.

In addition, the housebuilder is currently in advanced negotiations on seven other sites ranging from Nottingham to Leeds. These will deliver a further 930 plots in total with a gross development value of £260m.
