RWO appointed to support multi-million-pound regeneration project in Sunderland

A North East firm of engineers has won a six-figure contract to support a new multi-million-pound regeneration project in Sunderland.

The move sees RWO providing onsite civil and structural engineering services around the construction of hundreds of much needed new properties, which are being developed by Countryside Partnership North East on the site of the former Sunderland Civic Centre.

The 1970s-era centre is being demolished to make way for ambitious plans to transform the brownfield site into a vibrant city community, which will eventually accommodate a mix of 265 new homes. The first properties are expected to be completed and ready to live in by autumn 2024.

A package of engineering infrastructure support which includes structural design, access and drainage, and civils work is being provided by RWO to bring forward the new homes on Burndon Road . The work also sees the firm provide designs for both civil and structural engineering associated with the development.

With 30 people employed across its North East and Yorkshire offices and targeting revenues in excess of £2.5m in the next 12 months, this is the latest project RWO is working on for Countryside Partnership North East - it follows the completion of other residential schemes

It comes as the Seaton Burn-based firm continues to see strong growth and recruit skilled engineers to meet demand for its services across all its offices, which includes a geotechnical department.

It also reflects the high-quality engineering expertise available in the North East to support multi-million-pound infrastructure and regeneration projects.
