Exceptional half year results at JMW - every member of staff to be awarded a bonus this Christmas

Top 100 law firm JMW Solicitors has announced revenue for the first six months of its financial year is up by nine per cent. This puts the Manchester-headquartered firm well on course to achieve its target of £80 million turnover by its year end.

Total revenue for the firm, which has offices in Manchester, Liverpool and London, was £39.7 million over the period May to October 2023, with a profit figure of £7.4 million, up from. £7.1 million last year.

Head count has also increased by four per cent, with some significant lateral hires as Fixed Share Equity Partners including Laura Hadzik and Scott Bell, co-heads of the newly launched Commercial Road Transport department, and three new partners in the Restructuring and Insolvency team: Simon Gerrard, Manchester and Imran Aslam and Charles Metherell, a specialist in regulatory and advisory work for solicitors, London. Jonathan Askin returned to JMW as Head of Commercial in London, Priya Sejpal and Phil Hind joined the fast-growing Property Litigation team in London, with Sobashni Da Silva joining the Commercial Litigation team and Hussain Ahmed the Residential Real Estate team.

This year the firm received its highest ever number of listings in the prestigious legal directories The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners and has received seven nominations in the Northern Powerhouse Legal 500 Awards.

In November of last year a new management team took over the running of JMW, comprising Marc Yaffe as Managing Partner, Warren Martin as Senior Partner and Chris Sutton as CEO. All three are known for embodying JMW’s culture, values and ambition.

“JMW’s growth is largely organic – we don’t focus on acquisitions or mergers, preferring to add partners individually and build teams around them – so it is very pleasing to see such a strong performance for the first six months of this financial year,” said Marc Yaffe. “Our client base continues to grow, and we’re making strong progress on the execution of our business strategy as well as being on track with all our major milestones.

“We also continue to recognise talent internally: for example, having spotted that Daniel Neild, a member of our post room team, had both a real appetite and ability for creating animations, we moved him to our Marketing team, where he now supports them, the firm and its clients with his creative flair.

“All of our three offices continue to thrive, and we could not be prouder of our people. Our continued success is down to their hard work, talent and dedication, so we have made the decision to reward them once again with a bonus this Christmas.”
