Leeds based manufacturer announces HQ expansion and creation of new jobs

Yorkshire based manufacturer ACS Stainless Steel Fixings has marched into the new year, completing the construction of a new facility at its Cross Green base in Leeds.

The new facility brings an additional 10,000 sq ft of sustainable manufacturing space, from which ACS will pioneer new technologies and automation.

ACS is a leading and designer of structural building components, including but not exclusive to wall ties, windposts, masonry support and brick slip systems, all essential components used for the construction of modern-day structures, large or small.

The company employs 133 colleagues at its factory, including a cohort of apprentices from local colleges; the additional 10,000 sq ft will allow ACS to expand its operations, creating more new jobs and investing in automation and new processes that will set it apart in the industry.

With the physical factory complete, the team will now spend six months installing new automated machinery before commencing operations in the space in the summer; David Flannery is managing director and said: “The manufacturing sector has an opportunity to seize new opportunities, embrace change and invest in new technologies.

“This investment is testament to our belief in the future of the sector, one in which we intend to continue to grow and pioneer new products that are made here in Yorkshire. The new facility gives us the capacity to make this a reality and we look forward to expanding operations and welcoming more new colleagues in the coming months.”

As with the existing manufacturing operation, the extended factory building will also boast strong sustainability credentials, something that was recognised with ACS’ certification from Carbon Neutral Business 2023.

Green initiatives at the facility include the 249kW photovoltaic renewable roof panels that power operations, which can generate almost 1,000 kWh of electricity per day, as well as electric vehicle charging points.

Operations are also sustainable; 90 per cent of the raw material used at ACS is recyclable, while the resulting suite of stainless steel products are 100 per cent recyclable. David continued: “It is the responsibility of businesses to minimise their impact on the environment.

“That’s a big challenge in a sector as traditional as manufacturing but ACS is striving to make a positive change, finding new ways in which to maximise our output, while working towards becoming net zero and ensuring that as our presence and product lines increase, our carbon footprint does not.”
