Lufthansa Group Airlines announces new Senior Director Sales for Northern Europe

Sven Thaler has been appointed Senior Director Sales Northern Europe Lufthansa Group Airlines, acting since 1 January 2024.

Based in London, he now steers the commercial and sales activities for all Lufthansa Group Airlines (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Edelweiss) within a sales region that is comprised of 11 countries in Europe.

Sven has succeeded Heinrich Lange, who returned to Germany to take on his new role as Head of Digital Retailing Lufthansa Group. In his new position, Sven will report to Lorenza Maggio, Vice President Sales EMEA, Lufthansa Group Airlines.

A Swiss-German dual citizen, Sven began his aviation career at TUI fly and Air Berlin as a student pilot and flight attendant in 2007 before joining SWISS as a first officer in 2010. He started his management career in the Flight Operations department as Deputy Fleet Chief Avro RJ between 2013 and 2015.

He was then promoted as Deputy Fleet Chief Airbus A220, steering this position between 2015 and 2020. During this time, he was part of the project team and responsible for the successful operational entry-into-service of this new aircraft type, which he has been flying as captain since 2017.

Since 2020 and before taking over his new role, Sven has been responsible for 37 European stations in eleven countries as Regional Manager Ground Operations Continental North.

With his more than 15 years of experience in both central functions and as a pilot, he will bring a wealth of knowledge and diverse experience from different fields of the airline business into his new multi-country sales responsibility.

Sven will lead an established local sales management for Lufthansa Group Airlines in the following markets:

  • United Kingdom, Ireland & Iceland, steered by Frank Wagner.
  • The Netherlands, steered by Victoria Bubmann.
  • Denmark & Norway, steered by Flemming Nordestgaard.
  • Sweden, steered by Håkan Baeverstrand.
  • Finland, Estland, Latvia & Lithuania steered by Patrick Borg Hedley.
