Bellway and Banks Group application for 539 homes at Killingworth Moor approved by North Tyneside Council

Bellway has welcomed the decision of North Tyneside Council’s planning committee to grant consent to build 539 homes and new infrastructure at Killingworth Moor South.

The area sits within a wider site which is allocated to provide up to 2,000 houses and 42 acres of employment land at Killingworth Moor.

The plans were brought forward by Bellway and Banks Property.

Miles Crossley, land director for Bellway’s North East division, said: “Killingworth is an important growth area in North Tyneside and Bellway has a proven track in the area, having built hundreds of high-quality homes there over the past decade.

“We understand the needs and sensitivities of the local market and have worked with Banks Property to ensure that this new community will deliver both the homes and the infrastructure required.

“The homes will be highly energy-efficient, with electric car charging points and solar panels provided. New wildlife habitats will be created to enhance the biodiversity of the area and there will be large areas of green open space.”

Bellway Strategic Land, which manages long-term and early-stage development opportunities, has worked with the company’s North East division to develop the plans.

Martyn Earle, strategic land director for Bellway, said: “Killingworth Moor South has been a long-term development project for Bellway, in partnership with Banks Property. Together we have designed a connected and eco-friendly new community, and this has been recognised by the planning committee.

“This project extends far beyond building new homes. It will create a desirable neighbourhood, fund jobs throughout the construction period, and attract more spend to the local economy.”
