North Tyneside based consultancy hails ‘positive start’ to 2024 following turnover surge

North Shields based Carney Consultancy has hailed a ‘positive start’ to the year, with increased growth and a strong forward order book.

In the last two years, the company, led by managing director, Angela Carney and directors, Martin Crammond and David Wadds, has seen turnover surge by 64 per cent following a 22 per cent increase in retained clients.

Established in 2002, Carney Consultancy specialises in construction and engineering, providing health and safety consultancy and training. Team members come from a main contracting and subcontracting background and have worked, as consultants, with some of the North East’s main companies.

The firm works on an on-going basis with a variety of small to medium sized builders, specialist subcontractors and management companies.

Last year, the company identified a gap in the market to provide specialist training to three of its staff in areas such as sustainability and environmental awareness and has aided in completing carbon footprint reports for companies planning for the future.

It has also seen a big rise in demand for fire door inspections, resulting in the launch of a new division. As a result, specialist training has been delivered to a further three of its team, headed by its health and safety consultant and lead fire risk assessor, Steve Harkness.

Sister business, Carney CDM, provides both the principal designer and CDM advisor role services in accordance with the construction, design and management (CDM) Regulations 2015 across England, Scotland and Wales and comprises director Caroline Morton as well as Angela, David, Martin.

Established in 2021, the company has also outlined growth plans and is in the process of advertising for a new consultant to provide the principal designer/ CDM advisor role. As it enters its third year of trading, Carney CDM will also be announcing the launch of a new office.

Managing director, Angela Carney, commented: “Carney Consultancy has steadily grown in the last few years as a result of investing heavily in our people to develop their skills and careers which, clearly, is of benefit to our loyal clients. Team members come from varying backgrounds and that gives us depth and different perspectives.

“We are also proactive when it comes to offering health and safety advice to very receptive clients who put quality workmanship and the welfare of their employees as priorities. Our growth has been organic through word of mouth and by identifying areas of opportunity.”
