Whiteley nursery school opens brand-new sensory room funded by David Wilson Homes
Buttercups Nursery School in Whiteley has just opened a brand-new sensory room thanks to a £1,500 donation from David Wilson Homes.
The nursery school in Gull Coppice wanted to turn its quiet area into a special room for the children, but short on funds, it was proving impossible. That was until leading housebuilder, David Wilson, stepped in with some support.
The developer, which is bringing new homes to its Forest Walk development in Whiteley, is committed to helping organisations who need it in the local community and handed over a £1,500 cheque to Buttercups for the important renovations. With its support, the school has now opened a new calming and safe space for its children, away from busy areas.
Helen Akerman, Buttercups Nursery School’s Owner and Manager, said she’s delighted with the results. “Being in the PVI sector it is often difficult to raise extra funds to support our children’s learning and development. We are thrilled to have had David Wilson Homes’ support. Our new sensory room will offer a place for our children to go to if they are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed, and will also help them to understand and cope with their feelings, which is so important. They’re all loving their new space.”
Tammy Bishop, David Wilson Homes Sales Director, said: “We want to show our support for organisations in the communities in which we’re building and when we heard that Buttercups Nursery needed some funds to create a sensory space for its children, we just had to help. The new room looks incredible, and it looks like it’s had a thumbs up from all the kids here, which is great to see.”
As well the new sensory room, David Wilson’s donation has also meant that the Whiteley nursery school has been able to purchase a second cart to help staff transport resources to the nursery’s woodland morning that the children take part in every week.
Helen added: “Being able to take our children outside to learn about nature, is a crucial part of their development. A huge thank you to David Wilson from everyone here.”
Buttercups Nursery School has been a notable part of the Whiteley Community since 1998. It provides a happy, friendly, fun-filled environment for children to reach their full potential.
