Tigers fit for 120 year celebrations

Hull City will wear a commemorative kit to celebrate the club’s 120 years in the Tigers’ anniversary match against Cardiff City tomorrow.

Club legends Ken Wagstaff, Garreth Roberts, Brian Marwood, Justin Whittle, David Meyler and Curtis Davies joined first team coach Andy Dawson and captain Lewie Coyle to model the limited-edition all-black kit with gold detailing at a special photoshoot at the city’s historic Guildhall ahead of the game.

Just 1904 copies of the shirt are available to Tigers fans and they will go on sale in the club shop today - or they may be able to get their hands on one of the match-worn shirts which will also be made available.

The club has planned a number of activities for tomorrow’s EFL Championship clash with bottom-placed Cardiff, starting with a legends’ parade which will feature Wagstaff, one of the club’s greatest ever players, former captain Whittle and ex-managers Brian Horton and Peter Taylor who will be introduced to the fans before the game.

As well as a commemorative 120-page match-day programme, the MKM Stadium dressing room area has been given a revamp as part of the Hull City heritage numbers project, which lists all 1162 players to have represented the Tigers since the club’s formation in 1904.

The club has worked closely with the 120 Steering Group – consisting of individual fans and representatives of supporter groups – to formulate plans for the birthday celebrations and the club’s official community partner KCOM will also be at the stadium to be part of the celebrations.

Joe Clutterbrook, City’s chief operating officer said: “The stunning design of our 120-year anniversary kit is a fitting way to mark this important milestone in the history of our football club.

“It is only appropriate that we celebrate some of the most revered former players and managers that have contributed to some of the club’s most significant moments.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to the 120 Steering Group for their valuable input into this project and putting forward their ideas on how best to celebrate the anniversary.

“We are proud of our history, our city, and hope our supporters enjoy the nostalgia of reliving previous eras and exploring the many artefacts associated with the Tigers.”
