PD Ports beats 'tough competition' to win award
A port operator has been crowned ‘Best Dry Bulk Port’ at the International Bulk Journal Awards 2024, surpassing global competition to claim the title.
PD Ports' Teesport Bulks Terminal received the accolade for its innovation and strategic investment in people, infrastructure and technology, solidifying its world-leading reputation “as one of the UK’s safest and most trusted” port operators for the safe, efficient and sustainable handling of dry bulk products.
Grant Honzik, PD Ports' business unit director – bulks, said: “We are proud to receive this award against tough competition.
“It is testament to our commitment to excellence, efficiency and innovation in the handling of dry bulk cargo and to the hard work of our team, whose skills and unwavering commitment allow us to achieve the highest standards in all operations.”
The award, presented in Antwerp, highlighted Teesport’s impressive capabilities, including 300,000sq ft of covered warehousing, 890-metres of deep-water quay and a dedicated bulk rail freight terminal and in-house bulk transport service.
Teesport Bult Terminal handles millions of tonnes of dry bulk products such as agribulks, aggregates, biomass, fertiliser and construction materials annually, alongside metals, forest products and project cargo.
Recent upgrades include an £8.6 million investment in two electric, rail-mounted Liebherr cranes, boosting bulk handling capacity from 100 to 140 tonnes per lift.
Advanced bulk hoppers and automated systems including the TBA CommTrac have further enhanced productivity, supporting sustainable and efficient operations.
Grant added: “We are constantly investing in our bulks platform to support the efficient, effective and safe movement of cargo.
“Our experience and dedication to providing our customers with innovative and tailored services has been built up over a number of years, handling millions of tonnes of products and earning a reputation as one of the UK’s safest and most trusted port operators.”
