Auction firm drives student training forward
An auction company has bolstered motor vehicle education with a donation that will provide invaluable “hands-on” learning opportunities for students.
Wilsons Auctions, the UK and Ireland’s largest independent auction company, has donated two vehicles to South Tyneside College to enhance its motor vehicle training programmes.
The vehicles will allow students to gain practical experience on industry-standard equipment, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications.
Nigel Binks, associate director of UK sales at Wilsons Auctions, said: “Having started my career in the motor industry as an apprentice mechanic over 40 years ago, I understand the need for apprentices to be able to get “hands on” experience with vehicle engines and gearboxes, so we were delighted to be able to help by donating these vehicles for that purpose.”
South Tyneside College offers a range of motor vehicle qualifications, including mechanics, repair and paintwork, taught by industry experts who share their practical expertise. These courses align with national automotive standards, ensuring students are well-prepared for careers in the sector.
David Eglintine, motor vehicle lecturer at South Tyneside College, added: “We are incredibly grateful for this donation, which will give our students the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge that are vital for their future careers in the automotive sector.
“It’s fantastic when local businesses in the automotive industry, like Wilsons Auctions, collaborate with colleges.
“Their support can make a real difference in providing students with valuable opportunities.”
The college’s motor vehicle programmes are designed in partnership with the Institute of the Motor Industry, who are the Sector Skills Council for the automotive industry, providing students with qualifications that demonstrate their on-the-job skills and adherence to professional benchmarks.
