RMT marks milestone with job drive
A long-standing North East accountancy firm is celebrating its 70th anniversary with significant expansion and job creation.
RMT Accountants & Business Advisors has added 25 new roles this year, bringing its workforce to over 150. The Newcastle-based firm is planning further recruitment in 2025 to support continued growth across its services.
With the UK’s largest medical and healthcare accountancy team outside of London, RMT serves over 1,000 medical professionals, alongside a wide range of businesses locally, nationally and internationally.
RMT also operates RMT Technology, an IT solutions division helping clients implement tailored hardware and software systems, further diversifying its offerings.
Mike Pott, managing director at RMT, said: “The North East has changed out of all recognition over the last 70 years and we’re immensely proud that RMT has remained an integral part of its professional services community throughout.
“We believe that no other regional practice offers the breadth of services that we have available while also providing the level of personal involvement and collaboration that so often makes the difference to meeting clients’ commercial and personal goals.”
Founded in 1954 by Robert Miller and Stanley Tate on Newcastle’s Quayside, RMT has evolved into a leading professional services firm. Now based in Gosforth Business Park, the company joined Sumer, the UK’s fastest-growing accountancy group, in 2023, enabling a strategy focused on growth through acquisition.
Recent acquisitions include McCowie & Co, Ribchesters Chartered Accountants and KSA Group, strengthening RMT’s expertise in sectors such as rural and agricultural services, as well as business restructuring.
Mike added: “Becoming part of a nationwide organisation like Sumer, with a clear strategy for growth, is providing us with opportunities to bring in additional expertise to enhance the services we offer to our clients.”
“With the Big Four firms becoming ever more remote and smaller practices experiencing the pressure of an ever-increasing regulatory burden, the opportunities for firms like RMT have never been greater and with our team continuing to expand through both organic growth and acquisition, we see no limit to our future expansion.”
