Contractor gets to work on £23 million school revamp
A £23 million education project has begun to create a new learning hub.
Work has started to transform the ex-Woodlands School into a site for Woodfield School, in Coventry.
Bosses say it will bring primary and secondary pupils together in one location.
Nottingham-headquartered Clegg Construction has kicked off work on the Broad Lane site, which will include refurbishing seven buildings, creating teaching spaces and adding outdoor play areas, including a forest school.
The project, expected to complete in 2026, is being delivered alongside Glancy Nicholls Architects, BSP Consulting, Couch Perry Wilkes and landscaper Gillespies.
Michael Sims, managing director at Clegg Construction, which last month started work on Drakelow Primary School near Burton upon Trent, said: “We have wide experience of delivering new and refurbished educational facilities, and we are extremely proud to have been appointed to redevelop, reconfigure and repurpose this site.
“The team is looking forward to work progressing alongside our delivery partners.”
Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu, cabinet member for education and skills at Coventry City Council, added: “Every child in the city deserves to have the best education they possibly can, and this new facility is going to offer that.
“The new design will provide the best possible learning experiences.
“It’s going to be a huge asset for pupils once finished.”
