Warehousing goes 4D with smart storage
A new high-density storage system is set to transform warehouse efficiency, increasing pallet capacity while reducing aisle space.
Chorley-headquartered robotics and automation company Rainbow Dynamics has developed the 4D Pallet Shuttle Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS), designed for ambient and cold store warehouses operating at temperatures as low as -25°C.
The “flagship” system, which has received an “overwhelmingly positive” response and is understood to be the first and only 4D pallet carrier-based storage solution available in the UK, allows flexible pallet storage using automated carriers that transport loads within a racking structure.
With options for first in, first out (FIFO) or first in, last out (FILO) storage, the system optimises space, speeds up retrieval and reduces material handling costs.
Frazer Watson, global vice president of Rainbow Dynamics, said: “Within any type of storage facility, it is essential to maximise pallet density.
“Quite simply, the more pallets you can get into the warehouse, the lower your costs per pallet stored are going to become.
“With good quality warehouse space still hard to come by in the most sought-after locations throughout Europe, there is a lot of interest around high-density storage systems.
“The combination of high-density pallet racking and Rainbow Dynamics’ 4D Pallet Shuttle technology delivers maximum storage density while ensuring pallet accessibility is simple and rapid, and the market’s response to it has been so overwhelmingly positive that we expect the system to emerge as our flagship product before long.”
