Knead more room - Baker moves into ex-Greggs base
A bakery chain says it will continue rising to market demand after expanding into a national pasty maker’s former base.
Pink Lane Bakery has moved into Newcastle’s Baker’s Yard.
Bosses say the Gosforth site – once home to Greggs – will allow the artisan operator to make almost 3000 pies and sausage rolls every week.
They add the switch will also strengthen the 50-plus-staff company’s bid to “open more North East outlets over the coming months and years”.
Martha Jackson, co-owner, said: “We needed to find additional manufacturing space, and wanted to avoid defaulting to an out-of-town production facility where staff would never see the light of day.
“Baker’s Yard is perfect for us, with close proximity to our existing outlets, and the link to Greggs is fantastic.”
Pink Lane Bakery’s expansion adds another name to Baker’s Yard following Newcastle-based property developer Adderstone’s £14 million redevelopment of the four-acre site, with tenants including Stadler Rail, Haus Distribution and Verisure.
Ian Baggett, Adderstone founder and chief executive, added: “We love Pink Lane Bakery’s back story, and it's great to be able to play a role in supporting their future ambitions.
“Baker’s Yard is close to full occupancy and is becoming well-established as a dynamic and thriving local business hub.”
