Nexergy powers plastic-to-fuel plans at MPI
A clean tech company is accelerating its mission to convert plastic waste into low-carbon fuel with the launch of a new technology hub.
Nexergy Holdings PLC has chosen the Materials Processing Institute (MPI), in Middlesbrough, as the home for its first incubator, where it will refine and scale its patented thermo-mechanical process.
The technology converts plastic waste into a light crude oil alternative that can be refined into sustainable fuel.
Bosses say the incubator will play a key role in Nexergy’s go-to-market phase, enabling industrial testing and supporting plans to roll out up to 16 production facilities across the UK.
They add that the site provides a controlled environment for de-risking operations, optimising output and developing readiness for commercial deployment.
Jason Turner, managing director at Nexergy, said: “The MPI offers technical expertise, cutting-edge facilities and a shared commitment to sustainable innovation.
“Locating there means we will be able to move efficiently from proof-of-concept to commercial readiness, which is a critical step as we prepare for the rollout of our first full-scale production facility.”
Terry Walsh, chief executive of MPI, added: “MPI supports forward-thinking companies that are developing solutions for industrial sustainability.
“Nexergy’s approach aligns well with our own research priorities and with the region’s focus on green growth.
“Setting up at our site will mean that they have immediate access to our expertise and facilities to support this programme to develop its sustainable solutions capability.”
