Poolhouse launches with promise to reframe pool
A London-based leisure venture is chalking up a fresh take on pool.
Poolhouse, a new endeavour from the creators of Topgolf and Puttshack, will launch its debut 21,500sq ft venue near Liverpool Street, combining immersive design, patented gameplay and curated food and drink.
The £25.8 million seed-funded venture is backed by investors including Sharp Alpha, a US leisure-focused venture capital investor, and dmg ventures, DMGT’s consumer venture capital fund.
With expansion already eyed across the Middle East, North America and Asia, bosses say Poolhouse will aim to redefine pool as the next big player in competitive socialising, offering “a modern twist to the game in a marketplace which is booming”.
Andrew O’Brien, chief executive and co-founder, said: “The Poolhouse experience heralds the most significant transformation in the history of a near 700-year-old sport.
“The Jolliffe brothers changed the landscape of golf with Topgolf, and they are set to do the same to pool.”
Steve Jolliffe, Poolhouse co-founder, added: “Poolhouse is the most ambitious and scalable concept my brother and I have created, representing the pinnacle of our lifelong work.
“Today, more people play at Topgolf than on traditional golf courses in the US, and we aim to make an even greater impact on the world of pool.
“While we have a strong track record, this project has been our most challenging endeavour yet.”
