Newcastle biotech firm expands into China
A biotech firm is expanding its global footprint with a major partnership that will bring its cell preservation technology to one of the world’s largest life sciences markets.
Newcastle-based Atelerix has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Chinese supply chain specialist MineBio to deliver its pioneering hydrogel-based preservation products across China.
Bosses say the deal marks a key milestone in Atelerix’s international growth and gives it access to a high-demand market where biotechnology is booming.
Alastair Carrington, chief executive of Atelerix, said: “There is a burgeoning demand for high-quality, fresh biospecimens and sophisticated in vitro models in China.
“Our exclusive distribution partnership with MineBio officially marks Atelerix’s strategic entry into this market, and at an important time where the world is demanding broader access to advanced therapies – cell and gene therapies, for example.
“MineBio's established customer base aligns seamlessly with our product offerings, positioning us to effectively meet the needs of this dynamic market.”
Atelerix’s non-cryogenic tech preserves biological materials at ambient temperatures, eliminating the need for costly and complex cold-chain logistics.
The company’s patented hydrogels allow for easier transport and storage of sensitive samples like cells, tissues, viruses and organoids without compromising viability.
Amy Zuo, general manager of MineBio, added: “We are pleased to announce our partnership with Atelerix, introducing their hypothermic preservation portfolio for cells, tissues and other biomedical samples to the Chinese market.
“This partnership presents a unique opportunity to expand access to much-needed temperature-sensitive products, transforming the biomedical research landscape and ultimately enabling scientists to focus on advancing ground-breaking therapies.”
“Atelerix’s commercial solutions offer a fresh, cryo-free and hassle-free logistical solution, and we look forward to a successful journey together.”
