Window and door maker expands with £2 million move
A family-run window and door maker says it has opened a new growth chapter with a £2 million factory and head office move.
TWR Group has shifted operations to a 65,000sq ft site in Hendon, Sunderland.
Bosses say the base – which replaces factories in Hendon and Peterlee, east Durham – will strengthen the business’ market presence and create jobs, with two staff having already joined the firm.
They add the move has allowed the business to buy new machinery and open a showroom and trade counter.
Laura O’Brien, finance director at the aluminium and PVC window and door maker – which was founded by her father and managing director Terry – said: “This marks an exciting milestone for us.
“Both the aluminium and PVC sides of the company have grown significantly over recent years, and by bringing them together, we are ensuring we can continue to meet the increasing demand.”
TWR Group was supported by Sunderland City Council’s business investment team on its move, and received a £50,000 grant from support organisation UMi to help refurbish its new base.
Councillor Kevin Johnston, portfolio holder for business, housing and regeneration at Sunderland City Council, said: “We are thrilled TWR Group has committed its future to Sunderland.
“Six months ago, the building was dilapidated, and its future use was in doubt, so it is amazing to see how it has been transformed.”
Anita Economides, UMi business adviser, added: “The Business Growth Fund was set up to boost growth and job creation in the region, and this is a fantastic case study of that.
“This investment not only strengthens TWR Group’s future but contributes to the region’s reputation as a hub for high-value manufacturing and engineering excellence.”
