Slàinte Mhath! Distillery raises £2.4 million to boost expansion plans
A family-run whisky maker is expanding after securing £2.4 million investment.
Thompson Bros is set to break ground on the Struie Distillery following crowdfunding backing.
Bosses Phil and Simon Thompson say the move – backed by 720 investors – will “redefine the future of whisky production”.
They add the development – based close to the firm’s existing Dornoch Distillery in the Scottish Highlands – will create ten jobs and “far exceed” current production levels.
Construction is set to begin later this year, with the Leask Architects-designed Struie Distillery primed to feature renewable energy sources aimed at delivering zero-carbon emissions.
Phil and Simon said: “We are overwhelmed by the support from our community and investors.
“Surpassing our funding target not only validates our vision but also accelerates our journey toward establishing Struie Distillery as a beacon of sustainability in the global whisky industry.
“This marks a significant milestone for us, and we’re excited to break ground with a further 720 investors behind us.”
The crowdfunding campaign is part of a £5 million raise for Thompson Independent Traders Limited, which includes Dornoch Castle Hotel, Dornoch Distillery Company Limited, Thompson Bros independent bottling and blending and Struie Distillery.
The additional money will come from new and existing investors via a Series A fundraise.
