‘Strong endorsement’ for T12 Engineering
A Teesside-based engineering company with operations in Glasgow and Edinburgh has secured backing to help cut costs and carbon in the global offshore wind market.
T12 Engineering is one of just 22 businesses out of 69 applicants to receive funding from Scottish Enterprise as part of a programme to boost the country’s offshore wind supply chain.
Bosses say the support will enable T12 to carry out a feasibility study on its new ‘plug and play’ mooring system for floating wind turbines, which could halve installation time and save up to £1.95 million per turbine over a 20-year lifecycle.
The company’s design enables key subsea connections to be prepared ahead of time, allowing turbines to be installed faster with fewer weather-related delays.
With more than 240GW of floating wind projects in the global pipeline, the technology has significant export potential and could strengthen Scotland’s position as a leader in offshore wind innovation.
Graham Melroy, director at T12 Engineering, said: “Securing this funding is a major step forward and a strong endorsement of the innovation behind our concept.
“Our aim is to make offshore wind turbines faster to deploy and easier to maintain, driving down costs and improving reliability, creating economic opportunities in Scotland and beyond.”
Fellow director Andy Hughes added: “We’re excited to be pushing the boundaries of offshore engineering with a concept that not only improves project efficiency but also has the potential to support global demand for clean energy.
“Collaboration with Scottish industry and academia is central to developing the system further.”
