River bus firm feeling swell after £59 million support
A river bus operator is set to make waves after securing £59 million support.
Uber Boat by Thames Clippers has been backed by NatWest and Santander.
Bosses say the funding will power vessel upgrades – including new electric craft – and pier and drydock improvements.
The operator, which last year helped move more than four million people across the capital, has received £29.5 million each from NatWest and Santander.
Founded in 1999 with one vessel, it now operates 20 river boats, with two further craft in build.
Liam Hather, chief finance officer, said: “It’s vital we have funding partners who are proactive and can provide us with support that allows us to deliver on our plans.
“This latest agreement will support our continued investment into our fleet so we can provide the water transport services customers value and rely on.”
Lawrence House, NatWest relationship director, added: “Uber Boat by Thames Clippers is a real UK marine success story.
“They deliver a vital transport link to the capital, and this facility will contribute to the improvement of transport infrastructure across the River Thames and London.”
