Barratt unveils 'UK’s largest Passivhaus project'
A low-energy housing initiative is set to transform two London neighbourhoods.
Barratt London has announced plans to deliver more than 700 “Lo-E Homes” at High Barnet and Bollo Lane, in Acton, in partnership with Places for London.
High Barnet will include 300 homes and 40 per cent affordable housing, while Bollo Lane’s second phase adds 455 certified homes to a wider 900-home regeneration scheme.
Bosses say the developments will exceed rigorous Passivhaus standards and mark the largest rollout of its kind nationwide.
They add the climate-resilient homes, designed by experts including Beyond Carbon, will feature triple-glazed windows, filtered air systems and façades that minimise overheating.
The aim is to significantly cut energy use, reduce carbon emissions by up to 90 per cent and lower residents’ heating bills by around two thirds.
Craig Carson, managing director at Barratt West London, said: “Our Lo-E Homes concept is an opportunity to think differently and deliver a new approach to high-density, sustainable housing in London.
“This is a significant milestone for the business, as we look to the future and consider the unique challenges faced in the capital, such as more heatwave conditions every few years.
“I am particularly pleased we are planning to unveil the first Lo-E Homes across two significant partnership sites.”
Dr Joel Callow, founding director at Beyond Carbon, added: “The Lo-E Homes concept by Barratt London is far ahead of the curve: a genuine exemplar, which exceeds both current and future legislation, ensuring the homes are futureproofed long before the first spade is in the ground.”
Both schemes are being delivered under the £1.9 billion West London Partnership between Barratt London and Places for London, which will see more than 4000 new homes built over the next ten years.
Jonathan Cornelius, head of property development at Places for London, added: “We are proud to be developing homes through the West London Partnership at both High Barnet and Bollo Lane which are Passivhaus certified.”
