Ex-footballer serves up new padel endeavour
A footballer-turned-entrepreneur is shooting for success with a leisure sector venture.
Andy McMillan has launched Casa Del Padel.
Based at Malton Enterprise Park, it features two indoor padel courts and an indoor pickleball court.
Former York City player Andy – who is running the racquet sport endeavour alongside his family – says it will cater for “pent-up demand across North Yorkshire”.
Padel is played on an enclosed court with a tennis-like ball and paddles, while pickleball uses a plastic perforated ball and paddles.
Andy said: “Padel and pickleball are the fastest-growing sports in the world.
“Player numbers for padel doubled in 2024, and there is every reason to believe they will double – if not treble – this year.
“We’re confident we’ve created a great venue.”
Sean and Sue Harrison, developers of Malton Enterprise Park, which stands close to the market town of Malton and the A64 York to Scarborough road, added: “The new padel and pickleball venture will help take our park to a completely new level.”
