Lumo to roll out London-to-Stirling service
A national train operator has unveiled a new long-distance service.
Lumo is set to roll out a London-to-Stirling connection.
The five-train venture will include four daily return services and three Sunday services.
Operations are slated to begin in mid-2026, with stock serving stations including Motherwell, Whifflet, Greenfaulds, Larbert, Carlisle, Preston, Crewe and London Euston.
Bosses at transport firm FirstGroup – which owns Lumo – say the move will deliver annual revenues of around £50 million.
The route – which will use Class 222 six-car diesel trains through an agreement with Eversholt Rail – will build on Newcastle-headquartered Lumo’s existing services between London King's Cross and Edinburgh on the East Coast Main Line.
Graham Sutherland, FirstGroup chief executive, said: “Our new service between London and Stirling is another important step towards rolling out Lumo as a nationwide operator and growing our open access capacity.
“Our investment and capabilities in open access rail have delivered reliable services, grown rail demand and helped spur economic growth and connect communities.
“We look forward to doing the same on our new services.”
