Pedal power boosts Leeds home care
A Yorkshire care provider is turning to greener transport to enhance services and better support its workforce.
Springfield Healthcare, which employs over 130 staff in Leeds, has introduced three state-of-the-art e-Bikes as part of a new 18-month pilot aimed at cutting travel time between home visits and boosting care delivery.
The project is part of a wider initiative by Leeds City Council, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust and the Rayne Foundation’s ‘Better Careers for Better Care’ fund.
Officials say the pilot supports more efficient, greener travel for carers while tackling ongoing recruitment challenges in the region’s social care sector, where thousands of roles remain unfilled.
They add that the scheme also reflects Springfield’s broader commitment to innovation, sustainability and creating better working conditions for its care teams.
Theresa Bradley-Comstive, operations director at Springfield Healthcare, said: “This pilot is a positive step forward for our carers, clients and the community.
“We’re proud to be part of a forward-thinking initiative that we hope will reshape perceptions of care work and encourage more people to join the rapidly growing sector.”
Kate Sibson, head of commissioning at Leeds City Council, added: “Springfield was chosen to participate in the pilot in partnership with Leeds City Council, to provide opportunities for a career in home care for people who don’t own a car.
“The E-bikes will help care workers complete their rounds and see more clients than if they were walking or on public transport.”
