Print with purpose as schools go green

A provider of workplace technology is supporting schools across the country to cut carbon and embrace sustainability through a new education-focused programme.

Agilico, which is based in Hampshire and has offices in Leicester, Edinburgh and Gateshead, employing more than 450 people, has launched Schools for Change, an initiative aimed at helping nurseries, primary and secondary schools reduce their environmental impact.

Timed with World Environment Day (June 5) and World Ocean Day (June 8) last week, the campaign supports greener practices such as cutting carbon and tackling plastic waste, while also providing classroom resources.

The initiative highlights the impact of Agilico Zero, the company’s circular-first managed print service, which supplies refurbished multifunctional devices that emit 97.5 per cent less CO₂ than new machines.

With over 3500 refurbished devices rolled out in the past two years, Agilico has already saved the carbon equivalent of planting more than 73,000 trees.

So far, 336 of these devices have been deployed in 76 UK schools, saving over half a tonne of emissions per machine.

Sam Saunders, head of marketing at Agilico, said: “At Agilico, sustainability is not a side initiative – it’s central to everything we do.

“With Schools for Change, we're empowering educational institutions to make tangible environmental strides.

“By coinciding the launch with key global environmental dates – World Environment Day and World Ocean Day – we can really emphasise how Agilico's initiatives support sustainable consumption and production patterns.”

Each participating school receives a ‘Sustainability Pledge’ certificate, as well as practical tips to reduce waste and a copy of Jessie the Jellyfish, a children’s book teaching ocean conservation and the dangers of plastic pollution.

Lisa Barnett, manager of Hayling Community Pre-School, in Hampshire, added: “We’re grateful to receive our free copy of such a lovely book for our children and ensure our net-zero impact on the environment reduces with a fully refurbished printer from Agilico Zero.”
