Legal team walks the talk in London
Legal professionals from across the UK came together in London to raise funds for charities offering free legal advice to those most in need.
Christian Butler, a lawyer from law firm Knights’ Newcastle office, was among a 20-strong national team who raised over £1000 by taking part in the London Legal Walk this week.
Organised by the London Legal Support Trust, the 10km event draws thousands of legal professionals each year and raises funds for over 100 frontline advice services that provide free legal support to people facing complex challenges without representation.
Joining Christian was Niki Wilburn-Shaw, a family partner based in Manchester, who said the event left her feeling “proud”.
Niki said: “Equal access to justice is at the pinnacle of maintaining a fair and just society, yet there is an ever-increasing proportion of individuals who are unable to obtain this due to lack of funding for simple measures such as free legal advice clinics.
“We were proud to take part in such a huge fundraiser to do our bit at Knights to try and work to change this and, once my feet have recovered from marching for four hours in 27-degree heat, I will have happy memories of brilliant day of sunshine in central London with colleagues and legal peers alike.”
