Explore Learning appoints new chief executive

Explore Learning, the UK’s largest independent tuition provider, has named Lisa Haycox as its new chief executive. 

She takes over from founder Bill Mills, who remains on the board as founder director.

Lisa has been with Explore Learning since 2002, starting as a tutor and progressing through several senior roles, including chief operating officer. 

She led the company’s digital transformation during the pandemic and helped shape its commercial growth strategy.

Lisa said: “Explore Learning is uniquely positioned within the ecosystem to transform the future of education. 

“Teachers are doing a phenomenal job, but with significant pressure on the system, an increasing number of families are looking for additional support. 

“Our vision is to ensure every child, regardless of background or location, has access to high-quality, personalised learning, using data to work with families and teachers to deliver better outcomes. 

“By combining the best of our AI-powered technology with the expertise of our educators, we will continue to drive innovation, unlock potential, and empower the next generation to thrive.” 

Explore Learning supports 50,000 children through 94 learning centres nationwide and online, using its AI-driven platform Compass to personalise learning. 

This approach helps children make 19 months’ progress in 12 months on average.

The company has seen strong growth recently, doubling its EBITDA in 2024, driven by increasing demand from families seeking tailored education support beyond mainstream schools.
