On track for style and sustainability
A train operator is combining fashion with inclusivity in a bid to reduce its environmental impact.
Newcastle-headquartered Lumo has unveiled gender-neutral uniforms for its team, created in partnership with Jermyn Street Design (JSD).
The new outfits allow staff to mix and match pieces to suit their style, supporting individuality and self-expression.
Designed using eco-friendly fabrics, the uniforms also reflect Lumo’s commitment to sustainable practices, while nearly 600kg of old uniforms have been recycled via recycling and waste disposal experts Avena.
The uniforms will be worn by staff on Lumo’s electric train services between Edinburgh and London.
Jen Clare, service delivery director at Lumo, said: “At Lumo we believe that everyone should feel seen, respected and empowered to be themselves at work.
“Working closely with JSD, we’ve created something which allows our team to make their own decisions around their uniform, while also reflecting our responsibility to the planet.
“This collaboration has been about more than just clothing and has supported us in our mission to create a culture where individuality is celebrated and sustainability is a shared value.”
Ann Dowdeswell, chief executive of JSD, added: “Partnering with Lumo has been a natural fit for JSD – our shared focus on innovation, sustainability and purposeful design is reflected in every detail of the new uniforms.
“From responsibly sourced fabrics to integrated wearable tech, we’ve created solutions that support Lumo’s mission to offer smarter, greener travel.
“With a gender-neutral design that empowers staff to express themselves freely, this collection is a perfect example of how uniforms can align with brand, function and individuality.”
