'Pawsome partnership' aids dog centre growth
An expanding dog care operator has teamed up with a charity to create a new base.
The Doggy Day Care Centre is working with Blyth Star Enterprises to fit out a site in Blyth, Northumberland.
The charity’s woodwork department has overseen production of indoor and outdoor fencing, dog beds, play equipment and feeding trays for the Riverside Trading Estate hub.
The base will join existing sites in Alnwick, Whitley Bay and Pegswood, near Morpeth, which care for hundreds of animals every day.
Founded in 1987, Blyth Star Enterprises provides living support and day services for people with complex mental health needs and learning disabilities.
Jenny Cairns, who runs The Doggy Day Care Centre alongside husband Andrew, said: “We have struggled in the past to find contractors willing to go that extra mile.
“We wanted a company we could establish a long-term working partnership with, who could support us with the initial build but also any maintenance work needed going forward.
“When we heard about Blyth Star’s woodwork department, we wanted to find out more – and we were blown away.
“The staff and service users were all so knowledgeable and lovely, and we loved the idea of supporting a charity and giving something back to the community.”
Neil Hedley, Blyth Star Enterprises’ day services operations manager, added: “The project is by far the biggest commercial assignment the woodwork department has ever taken on.
“The sense of camaraderie in the workshop throughout the project has been wonderful, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the new centre up and running.”
