Plans submitted for new housing scheme
A North East housing provider is planning a new affordable homes scheme.
believe housing has submitted proposals for 22 new affordable homes at Newton Hall, near Framwellgate Moor.
Working with Hedley Planning, the housing association says it hopes to replace 22 empty properties and five garage blocks on Farnham Road with 18 houses and four bungalows for social rent or affordable homeownership.
They add that plans also include car parking and tree preservation measures, with the scheme expected to support up to 75 jobs across construction and the supply chain.
Alex Franklin, Hedley Planning associate director, who is overseeing the planning submission to Durham County Council, said: “We continue to see strong demand for quality affordable housing across the North East.
“If this scheme gets the planning green, it will be a real asset to the community.
“Indeed, the delivery of social housing has never been more important than at present with commercial pressures on the sector to deliver high quality, added value schemes in places where people want to live and build communities.”
Demolition could begin later this month, with construction starting next summer if Government funding is secured and Durham County Council grants approval.
Kate Abson, director of assets and development at believe housing, added: “This is a brilliant location, close to the city and local amenities, and we’re keen to replace the outdated homes with modern, energy-efficient ones that will help meet the pressing need for affordable housing in County Durham.”
