Driving innovation with £150 million CAM boost
A transport innovation programme is receiving a funding injection to help scale the next generation of connected and automated vehicle technology.
The Government has committed an additional £150 million to the Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) Pathfinder programme, which is set to run until 2030.
Delivered by the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) and supported by Zenzic and Innovate UK, the initiative backs UK-based projects developing world-first transport solutions.
So far, £18 million has supported 37 projects, with more funding details expected soon.
Officials say the CAM Pathfinder programme aims to unlock economic growth and innovation by accelerating development and adoption of safer, more sustainable and inclusive mobility technologies.
Mark Cracknell, programme director at Zenzic, which was created by the Government and industry to champion the CAM ecosystem and lead the UK in accelerating the self-driving revolution, said: “Innovation in CAM is more than just developing new technology, it’s a driver of investment, exports and skilled jobs across the country.
“From local suppliers to global exporters, the sector is creating real-world impact by building a more sustainable, inclusive and future-ready transport future, and the extension of CAM Pathfinder will be key to ensuring we continue to build on this success, while ensuring the UK remains a world-leader in the development and deployment of CAM solutions.”
Pilot services are expected to begin from spring 2026.
