Golfers chip in for Maggie’s Newcastle
A construction firm has raised thousands of pounds for a local cancer support centre.
Newcastle-based True North Construction hosted a charity golf day at Arcot Hall Golf Club, in Dudley, Cramlington, bringing together 72 industry professionals and raising £3500 for Maggie’s Newcastle.
Maggie’s offers free support to people affected by cancer and relies entirely on donations to fund its services.
True North, founded in 2019, is known for high-end home extensions and certified Passivhaus projects across Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and County Durham.
The golf day was backed by headline sponsor J. Renton Groundworks and was supported by a wide range of businesses from the construction and design community, with local companies including Carney Consultancy, Northern Counties Builders Federation, Room by Julia, Jewson Hexham, Lovells, St James’ Place Newcastle, JC Consulting and MawsonKerr Architecture all taking part.
After a competitive day, Carney Consultancy topped the leaderboard, with True North’s construction site team and A. Fulthorpe Painting and Decorating placing second and third, respectively.
The day was capped off by a standout moment from Owen Cairns, of Narro Associates Engineering, who hit an incredible hole-in-one.
David Roberts, director of True North Construction, said: “It was a brilliant day with a great atmosphere and a real sense of purpose behind it.
“Maggie’s does incredibly important work and we’re pleased the money raised will help people in the region access the support they need.
“One of the great things about the construction industry is that businesses and individuals are always willing to come together to support a charity or initiative like this.
“We’re really grateful to everyone who got involved and we look forward to continuing our support for Maggie’s in the future.”
Karen Verrill, centre head at Maggie’s Newcastle, added: “Cancer affects so many people across our region, support from businesses like True North Construction is vital to the work we do here at Maggie’s Newcastle.
“We couldn’t provide the emotional, practical, and psychological support to people living with cancer and their friends and families without the generosity of individuals and businesses.
“The funds raised at this event will make a real difference and it’s encouraging to see the construction industry come together for such a meaningful cause.”
