Housing provider creates new home with depot
A housing association is creating a new home in a depot and office venture.
Gentoo is expanding to Sunderland’s Eastgate Point.
Bosses add the site will provide a base for its property services teams.
They add it will be shared with materials supplier Jewson Partnership Solutions, in a move that will “improve efficiencies and reduce customer wait times”.
Building work is set to be completed next summer.
The depot and office will form part of a wider regeneration of the 120,000sq ft Eastgate Point site, with Promenade Properties leading work to create trade units and a drive-through coffee shop on land formerly home to a Littlewoods call centre.
Eaglescliffe-headquartered Hewitson Group is managing construction, with Sunderland-based Building Design Northern providing architectural design support.
Marc Edwards, Gentoo executive director of property, said: “This marks the beginning of a journey to bring our property operations closer together.
“Having Jewson alongside us will improve efficiencies and reduce wait times for customer repairs.
“I’m proud we are investing in a space that keeps us close to the customers and communities we serve.”
Mark Esling, Jewson Partnership Solutions’ managing director, added: “We’re proud to be part of this exciting new chapter at Eastgate Point.
“This development is more than just a new location; it’s a symbol of our shared commitment to partnership, sustainability and community investment.”
