Housing association 'will do more' for North East
A housing association has pledged to “do even more for the North East” as it continues to roll out a £220 million build and refurbishment programme.
Bernicia says it will launch a new five-year plan in the coming months to continue making a “positive difference” to the communities it serves.
The vow came as bosses revealed the operator will build more than 200 homes in its current financial year.
Its portfolio includes 65 homes in Guidepost, Choppington and Stakeford, in Northumberland; 56 homes at Seton Hall, in Berwick; and 34 properties in Killingworth Moor, North Tyneside.
Its forward pipeline features further properties in Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham.
Officials say the organisation has also spent more than £10 million during the year to make 1300 existing homes more energy efficient.
John Johnston, Bernicia chief executive, said: “A place to call home sets the foundation for all things in life.
“We work with a range of organisations, including the North East Combined Authority, our local authority partners and our tenants, to help determine need and inform our plans for the future.
“We are delighted with the positive difference we have delivered, but are also determined to do even more for the North East.”
