Historic town celebrates regeneration boost
An East Cleveland town is celebrating two major regeneration projects that will provide new opportunities for creativity, training and employment.
Loftus has officially opened the doors to its refurbished United Reformed Church and the newly-built Temperance Square training hub.
The church, a 1906 landmark that had stood empty for 20 years, has been transformed into a vibrant creative space.
It now offers artist studios, a gallery and workshops, bringing new life to the building and wider community.
Temperance Square, meanwhile, has been designed to support skills development and business growth across Loftus and East Cleveland.
The centre will host training, employment support and collaboration with organisations including Jobcentre Plus and Beyond Housing, helping to boost job prospects and encourage start-ups.
Delivered by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council with funding from Tees Valley Combined Authority and the Government, the projects mark a significant milestone for the town’s regeneration plans.
Councillor Lynn Pallister, cabinet member for growth and enterprise at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: “It is jobs and prosperity which will transform the prospects of local people.
“More money in people’s pockets means more money for them to spend in the local area.
“Helping local people get the skills and training they need for quality jobs is vitally important, and will only benefit our local businesses and communities.
“The transformation of the United Reformed Church is another fantastic milestone for Loftus, bringing a beautiful historic building back into use and creating a space where creativity and community can thrive.”
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “This is a fantastic new training facility which will support local people in developing the skills they need to take advantage of the job opportunities coming to Teesside – while also bringing a historic local building back to life.”
