Newcastle to host #SaferToBeMe Summit

A North East city is set to welcome thousands for a landmark LGBTQIA+ rights summit.

The #SaferToBeMe Summit returns to Newcastle from 20-25 October, under the theme “Local to Global,” highlighting how community action can drive worldwide change.

Hosted by ReportOUT, Pride Action North and OUT North East, the week-long programme combines social events, training, networking and a flagship two-day conference, with sessions streamed globally.

Highlights include a keynote launch, a business networking evening and the signing of the Newcastle-Gateshead Declaration, all designed to foster collaboration and share strategies for equality and inclusion.

Angela Brudenell, charity manager of Pride Action North, said: “The core mission of #SaferToBeMe is to create safer, more inclusive communities where LGBTQIA+ people – and all marginalised groups – can live openly, freely, and with respect.

“We want to inspire real change by bringing people together to learn, share and act in ways that improve lives both locally and globally.

“This year’s theme, ‘Local to Global,’ highlights that while challenges may look different around the world, we are all connected in this fight for equality.”

Beyond its human rights focus, the summit will boost the region’s profile, attracting international visitors and media attention while showcasing Newcastle and Gateshead as inclusive, forward-thinking destinations for diversity, culture and innovation.
