Charity project creates sanctuary for parents

A Staffordshire charity appeal is supporting bereaved parents.

The University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) Charity is raising £50,000 to create an outdoor contemplation space at Royal Stoke University Hospital for parents who have lost a pregnancy or baby.

The tranquil area will feature a forget-me-not statue at its heart, offering a place of reflection and solace.

Staffordshire law firm Myers & Co, which selected the appeal as its charity of the year, has donated £2500 following themed fundraising events, raffles and bake sales.

The gift brings total funds raised to just over £17,000.

Lisa Thomson, UHNM Charity director, said: “I would like to thank Myers & Co for choosing us as its charity of the year.

“It is fantastic to see a local business supporting UHNM, to help us reach our fundraising goal for the Pregnancy and Baby Loss Contemplation Area at Royal Stoke.

“The area will make a big difference to families, and, with Myers & Co’s fundraising efforts, we are a step closer to reaching our target.”

Tim Newsome, managing director of Myers & Co, added: “We believe in supporting the local community and causes that make a positive and tangible difference in people’s lives.

“For the latest financial year, we asked staff to nominate and then vote for a local cause as our charity of the year.

“The UHNM Charity’s Pregnancy and Baby Loss Contemplation Area project will create a meaningful space which will be a sanctuary that brings comfort and peace to those who need it most, and we are honoured to play our part in it.

“Anyone who has been through the trauma of losing a little one will know how vital this contemplation area will be, and how proper support can make a real difference at a difficult time.”
