North East showcases build to rent sector

The North East is set to showcase its growing rental housing sector.

The Association for Rental Living is hosting its first Newcastle and Sunderland Study Tour on October 8-9, giving investors, developers and consultants a close look at purpose-built rental developments across the region.

Delegates will visit multi-family and single-family schemes, including landmark projects such as Grainger’s The Forge and Pottery Lane from Olympian and Hines, which is poised to become the city’s largest purpose-built rental development, as well as Vistry’s Freight Village, in Gateshead, and Sigma’s West Park Quarter, in Sunderland.

City Councils will also lead discussions on regeneration, housing demand and regional economic trends, highlighting the strategic role Build to Rent (BTR) plays in addressing the North East’s housing challenges.

The tour offers briefings, guided site visits and networking opportunities, underlining BTR’s contribution to sustainable housing delivery, investment growth and thriving mixed-tenure communities.

Paul Beattie, chair of the Association for Rental Living NE & Yorkshire Hub Steering Group, said: “Newcastle and Sunderland demonstrate the considerable opportunities emerging in the North East for rental living investment.

“Both markets offer a dynamic environment for future growth, with strong and growing demand for high-quality rental living schemes underpinning the sector’s robust evolution.

“Yet the full Build to Rent potential in the region has not yet been unlocked.

“We are delighted to be showcasing this dynamic market at the forthcoming Study Tour, which will reveal detailed regional insights, firsthand examples of market-leading schemes and essential networking opportunities.”
