Sheepfolds serves up new breakfast venture
A Sunderland hospitality venue has added a new breakfast venture to its menu.
Sheepfolds Stables has launched MINE, a café-style concept serving traditional English breakfasts, baps and burgers seven days a week.
The new offering is a joint venture with Ryan McVay, owner of The Calabash Tree, which already operates a popular restaurant at the award-winning venue.
MINE will operate from 9:30am to 3pm, catering to both early risers and weekend crowds attending matches at the nearby Stadium of Light.
The menu features classic breakfasts, including Full English options, bacon, sausage and egg sandwiches and bubble and squeak, with vegetarian, vegan and kids’ options coming soon.
Grab-and-go choices will also be available for those seeking a quick lunch.
The venue’s flexible setup allows customers to dine indoors or in the main outdoor courtyard or take away orders via a dedicated hatch.
After 3pm, the space reverts to a bar or private hire area.
Ryan said: “MINE fully complements all the other businesses here and offers customers the very best traditional breakfasts every day from 9:30am onwards.
“Whether people are coming down for a bacon sandwich or we’re supplying local businesses with breakfast or lunch, the classics are all on the menu, so we’re excited to be open.”
The name MINE pays tribute to the area’s industrial heritage, referencing the nearby Wearmouth Colliery where the Stadium of Light now stands, as well as Sheepfolds Stables’ 141-year history as a working horse stable.
Rick Marsden, managing director of Building Design Northern, which developed Sheepfolds Stables, added:“This is another step forward for Sheepfolds Stables and one where we have listened to customers’ feedback and identified what people are looking for (and when).
“We are constantly developing Sheepfolds Stables to become the very best hospitality venue not just on Wearside but regionally too, and MINE, our newest venture opened in conjunction with Ryan, will enable us to do just that.”
