Builder breaks ground on £7.9 million city scheme
A builder has started work to create a £7.9 million affordable housing development on former care home land.
Esh Construction has broken ground on the 36-property Bolehill View scheme, in Sheffield.
Bosses say the venture will span two blocks split between 30 and six apartments.
They add the buildings will feature multi-red brickwork, steel and glass entrance canopies, and air source heat pumps and underfloor heating.
County Durham-headquartered Esh Construction has been appointed by Sheffield City Council to deliver the development, with the scheme backed by £4.1 million Homes England funding from its Affordable Homes Programme.
The project builds on work to create an £18.9 million zero-gas affordable housing development at Newstead, in South East Sheffield, alongside the local authority.
Simon Woodward, operations director at Esh Construction – which operates within the wider Esh Group that complements a base in Bowburn, near Durham City, with a Leeds office – said: “We are proud to continue strengthening our partnership with Sheffield City Council.
“This scheme directly addresses the city’s housing need by providing accessible homes that are designed to reflect and enhance the local community.
“We are committed to creating sustainable, energy-efficient developments that leave a lasting legacy.”
The Bolehill View project forms part of Sheffield City Council’s ten-year housing strategy.
Councillor Douglas Johnson, the authority’s housing policy committee chair, added: “We have ambitious plans to address housing demands across the city.
“New-build council homes like Bolehill View help with this, and it’s very pleasing to see they will be supplied with modern heating systems.
“The fact almost all of the homes at this development will be specially built for those with additional needs is really important too.”
