Gateshead charity opens new local advice hub
A Gateshead-based community charity has expanded its services with a new local hub.
Citizens Advice Gateshead has opened its newest location at the refurbished Blaydon Library, providing residents with a permanent space to access free, confidential advice on benefits, housing, debt, employment and family issues.
The hub forms part of the charity’s wider locality model, which includes Pelaw Library, Felling Medical Centre, Winlaton Centre and Chopwell Community Centre, each designed to meet the specific needs of local residents.
Officials say the Blaydon hub aims to strengthen the charity’s presence in the west of the borough, offering a welcoming space for support while working in partnership with local voluntary and community organisations.
They add that the launch reinforces Citizens Advice Gateshead’s commitment to accessible, community-rooted services across the borough.
Judith Wood-Archer, service delivery director at Citizens Advice Gateshead, said: “The opening of our Blaydon hub is a proud moment for us.
“It reflects our belief that advice should be available where people live, work and feel most comfortable.
“By embedding our services in trusted community spaces like Blaydon Library, we’re making it easier for residents to get the support they need, when they need it.
“This hub will be a vital lifeline for many, and we’re excited to see the positive impact it will have.”
Liz Twist, MP for Blaydon and Consett, added: “Our communities in the west of Gateshead deserve the same great service that the whole of Gateshead receives through Citizens Advice Gateshead, thankfully that is now a reality with the new hub situated in Blaydon Library.
“I know that it can be a challenge getting into Gateshead for many of my constituents, who live in rural areas where buses can be few and far between, but this hub can serve as a lifeline to many and will offer support to anyone who needs it.”
