Couriers on the move with second takeover

A North West logistics business is accelerating its growth with another acquisition.

Same-day courier specialist Today Team has added Barnsley-based Elite Logistics to its expanding portfolio in an asset-based deal. 

The move follows its takeover of Speedy Courier Services last year, marking the firm’s second acquisition in three years.

Founded by former professional rugby player Jamie Boyd, Today Team has grown into a multi-million-pound operation known for its reliability and customer service. 

The firm, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, has set an ambitious target of achieving £5 million turnover by 2028.

Jamie says the deal continues a period of rapid progress for Today Team, which is expanding its reach and capabilities while investing in technology and efficiency to deliver on its promise of speed and reliability.

He adds that the immediate focus will be on integrating Elite’s operations into its own systems and processes, a project he will be personally leading.

Jamie said: “I know how a good courier business works – having built Today Team from scratch and just one van.

“All the learning we took from acquiring Speedy Courier Services gave me the confidence to secure Elite Logistics – a fantastic business founded by two young entrepreneurs who have pivoted into the fitness industry. 

“My goal now is to make a third deal and complete a hat-trick.

“I am hopeful that, by this time next year, I’ll have completed another acquisition.

“I’m open to serious conversations with owner-operators who are ready to activate their exit strategy.”

Jamie added: “I’m getting hands on because, as I’ve learned over the years, you need to understand any business from the inside out before making any strategic decisions.

“I’ve got an excellent team who are primed to deliver the best possible onboarding experience to customers – and that’s our focus for the foreseeable future.”

Elite Logistics was established a decade ago by Tim Beswick and Martin Lever, who built it into a nationwide operator. 

With their decision to exit the sector, the Today Team has stepped in to ensure a smooth transition for customers while securing another foothold in the UK logistics market.
