Jet2 launches new flights from Newcastle

A North East airport is seeing rising demand for international city breaks and winter sun escapes.

Newcastle International Airport welcomed the launch of Jet2.com’s new routes to Budapest and Marrakech this month, with the first flight to Budapest having departed on October 9 and to Marrakech on October 10.

Flights to Budapest will operate every Thursday and Sunday, while Marrakech services run on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Both destinations have attracted strong interest from passengers, reflecting a growing appetite for short-haul city trips and warmer winter getaways.

To mark the launches, passengers were treated to complimentary drinks, sweet treats and city guides at the boarding gates, while the areas were decorated with balloons and artwork showcasing landmarks from both cities.

Leon McQuaid, director of aviation development at Newcastle Airport, said: “We are delighted that Jet2.com has further strengthened its commitment to Newcastle Airport with the launch of new routes to Budapest and Marrakech.

"These new services provide our passengers with even more choice and reflect the growing demand for connectivity from the North East to destinations across the world.

“It was fantastic to celebrate the first flights with Jet2.com and our passengers, and we are confident both destinations will be hugely popular."

Budapest offers a mix of historic and cultural attractions, from Buda Castle and its famous thermal baths to river cruises along the Danube.

In winter, festive markets and open-air ice skating at the City Park Ice Rink, one of the oldest open-air ice rinks in Europe, add seasonal charm.

Marrakech, known as the Red City for its distinctive terracotta walls and buildings, lures travellers with ornate palaces, winding streets and vibrant souks, making it a popular winter sun destination.

The new routes expand Jet2.com’s offerings from Newcastle, providing passengers in the North East with easy access to both European cultural hubs and sunny escapes.

A Jet2.com spokesperson added: “Since going on sale with these new routes to Marrakech and Budapest from Newcastle Airport, we have experienced a phenomenal reaction with customers jumping at the chance to book our award-winning flights and holidays.

“We are very excited to be giving holidaymakers in the region even more choice, as well as the opportunity to explore these incredible destinations.

“It is fantastic to be waving off our first flights, and we have no doubt they will be in high demand.”
