MultiSec and Enshore collaborate on lifting beam
A Middlesbrough-based engineering company is delivering bespoke offshore lifting solutions.
MultiSec has designed, manufactured, tested and supplied a custom multi-point lifting beam system for Enshore Subsea, supporting its offshore cable handling operations.
The Joint Over Boarding Beam was tailored to meet Enshore’s specifications, combining strength, precision and adaptability for future offshore campaigns.
Engineered with a safe working load of 35 tonnes, a 15.5-metre span and 16 lower lift points, bosses say the beam can handle varied load configurations safely in challenging marine environments.
Full fabrication and proof load testing took place at Durham Lifting’s Britannia Testhouse in Middlesbrough, with certification to Eurocode, DNV-ST-0378 and BS EN 13155 standards.
Amanda Gardiner, managing director at MultiSec, said: “Our engineers worked hand in hand with Enshore’s project team from the early design stage through to fabrication and testing.
“Delivering a lifting beam that performed flawlessly on its first offshore use is always rewarding – it demonstrates what can be achieved when technical requirements are clearly understood and engineering precision is maintained throughout the process.”
In addition to the beam, MultiSec supplied a complete rigging package, including Green Pin® Tapered Pin ROV Shackles, wire ropes, polyester slings, chains and cable grips, ensuring compatibility and traceability from design to offshore deployment.
The system was first used on the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, located 15 kilometres off the Angus coast.
When complete, the 1.1 GW project will generate enough electricity to power half of Scotland’s homes.
Henry Jemison, package manager at Enshore Subsea, added: “The MultiSec team owned the challenge from the off and delivered the beam, to spec, within budget and ahead of time.
“The beam has already been used offshore operationally and worked as intended, first time.
“MultiSec’s ability to own the scope has reduced the Enshore Project Team’s interface burden, and we look forward to working with them on our next projects.”
