Festival of The Girl comes to Newcastle
A North East festival is set to inspire and empower young girls.
Festival of The Girl, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2019 to challenge gender stereotypes, will host its first event outside London at Newcastle University in March.
The festival, designed for primary school-aged girls and their families, aims to provide a safe and inclusive space to explore new activities and meet female role models from a wide range of industries.
The event is being delivered in partnership with Newcastle-headquartered global marine insurer NorthStandard, whose diversity, qquity and inclusion group is providing funding support.
The partnership reflects a shared vision of empowering girls, including in traditionally male-dominated sectors such as maritime and insurance.
Andrea Preston, chief people officer at NorthStandard, said: “We believe every girl deserves to see the limitless possibilities ahead and to grow up in an environment that nurtures her passion and confidence.
As an organisation, we are committed to our region and we understand how important it is for girls in the North East to be exposed to new opportunities, encouraged to try new activities, and feel empowered to become the next generation of female leaders and innovators in the North East.”
Since its inception, Festival of The Girl has directly supported more than 37,000 girls, with past events covering topics from aviation and robotics to wellbeing and confidence.
The Newcastle event is part of a broader plan to expand the festival across the North East, giving girls the chance to explore their passions, discover their potential and connect with inspiring female role models.
