Airport lands new Turkey route

A North East airport is expanding its holiday offering with a new summer route.

Teesside International Airport will welcome Turkish carrier Mavi Gok Airlines from July 2026, with weekly flights to Antalya running every Wednesday until late October.

The service makes Teesside the only UK airport outside London to host the airline, offering passengers a convenient midweek escape to one of the Mediterranean’s most popular holiday regions.

Antalya Airport serves a stretch of coastline renowned for its beach resorts, ancient landmarks and family-friendly attractions, from Lara Beach and Belek to the historic streets of Kaleiçi.

The announcement marks another strong step for Teesside Airport, which has seen its highest passenger numbers in nearly two decades.

It follows the introduction of year-round flights to Malaga and the expansion of Alicante services to four flights per week, strengthening the airport’s growing range of sunshine destinations.

Phil Forster, managing director of Teesside International Airport, said: “This is brilliant news for local people who want more choice, more sunshine and more convenience when they fly.

“Antalya is a fantastic destination for families, couples and adventure-seekers, and we’re thrilled MGA Airlines has chosen Teesside as their only UK base outside of London.

“With year-round Malaga now in place, Alicante expanding, and passenger numbers at their highest in more than ten years, we’re continuing to make flying from Teesside easier and better than ever.”

Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “This announcement is another big win for local holidaymakers.

“Getting more routes and more airlines into Teesside means people can travel to amazing places without the stress of trekking to airports further away.

“MGA choosing Teesside for their first UK flights outside London shows how far our airport has come.

“With our busiest winter in 17 years about to kick off, it’s clear Teesside Airport is thriving – and today’s news gives people even more reasons to fly local.”
