Builder presses on with 96-home hospital scheme
A housebuilder has reached a milestone moment in a 96-property development.
Bellway has demolished the former Harold Wood Hospital, in east London.
Bosses say the landmark leaves it primed to bring the Romford estate’s first homes to market next summer.
Known as The Comptons, the scheme will feature 74 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses.
The blueprint also includes 22 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, which will be marketed as affordable housing.
William Weston-Smith, Bellway Thames Gateway land director, said: “The completion of demolition work is a very important step in the process of regenerating this redundant brownfield site.
“The development will provide a range of much-needed private and affordable housing in a sustainable location.”
He added Bellway has committed to investing more than £1.3 million into local services and facilities, which will include £954,335 in community infrastructure levy payments and additional support for secondary school places, bus stop upgrades and carbon offsetting.
